Foot & Public Transport Surveillance Course - London

Delivered by specialists with backgrounds in UK Special Forces, government, and defence, ensuring the highest professional standards.

Operating covertly in London is fundamentally different to operating anywhere else in the UK. Density, pace, transport systems, and scrutiny create a unique operating environment that cannot be replicated elsewhere.

London Transport Surveillance Course Overview

This course is designed to orient and immerse those new to the surveillance industry in the realities of conducting covert foot and public transport surveillance within London. It focuses on environment, movement, judgment, and decision-making, not basic tradecraft.

The London Foot & Public Transport Course provides a controlled introduction to the nuances of operating in the capital, delivered by instructors with decades of experience working at the highest levels of organised crime and counter-terrorism.

Delivered by former Met Police

The course is delivered by former Metropolitan Police Surveillance Officers with nationally accredited surveillance qualifications and extensive operational experience within London.

Across the last three decades, the instructional team has operated against serious and organised crime and counter-terrorism targets within the city, and has contributed to the delivery of both Metropolitan Police and National Police surveillance training programmes.

They now operate within the private sector and form part of S2K’s organic network, supporting capability development and acting as a feeder into operational deployment for newly qualified members of the S2K community.

This course is designed for individuals who are new to the private surveillance industry and are seeking structured exposure to London-based operations in a governed, supported environment.

Due to the operational and networking elements of the course, attendance is restricted to those who are already aligned with S2K standards and values.

Entry Requirements

  • Successful completion of the S2K Accredited Covert Surveillance Course

  • Demonstrated suitability to operate within live environments

  • Willingness to engage professionally within a peer and instructor-led setting

Attendance is restricted to ensure the course remains organic, controlled, and aligned with operational pathways.

Who is this course for?

What’s is covered?

Training is immersive and predominantly practical. Coverage includes:

  • Foot surveillance in high-density, high-footfall London environments

  • Operating within major retail, transport, and transitional spaces

  • Public transport surveillance unique to London, including:

    • The Underground system

    • Black cabs

    • Lime bikes

  • Movement, positioning, and decision-making under pressure

  • Managing scrutiny, pace, and environmental complexity

All training is delivered within live operational environments.

What’s in the course?

Course structure

To maximise time on the ground, theoretical elements are delivered remotely via Microsoft Teams prior to the course.

As all participants are already surveillance trained, the two-day course is structured almost entirely around live exercises and teaching practice, providing an immersive and realistic learning environment from start to finish.

Networking and Integration

At the conclusion of Day One, an informal networking event is held.

This provides an opportunity for those new to the industry to meet, face-to-face, the individuals responsible for deploying surveillance operatives within the private sector. The emphasis is on integration, relationships, and community — not recruitment theatre.

This element is a key reason the course remains restricted to those who have already completed S2K accredited training.

Our Approach

London is not a training ground for experimentation.

This course exists to introduce new operatives to the realities of operating within the capital in a controlled, professional manner — while strengthening relationships, maintaining standards, and building long-term capability within the S2K network. It is practical, immersive, and deliberately limited in scope.

FAQ’s

  • London is unlike any other operating environment in the UK. Its density, pace, layered transport system, and sheer volume of movement create challenges that are not replicated elsewhere.

This course exists because effective surveillance in London requires refined movement discipline, intelligent transport selection, and the ability to transition seamlessly between foot, Underground, buses, taxis, and micromobility.

We are preparing already-trained operatives to operate confidently and professionally within this unique environment.

  • London presents a unique operating environment in terms of density, pace, transport systems, and scrutiny. These conditions cannot be replicated elsewhere and require specific exposure and understanding.

  • The course covers London-specific public transport systems, including the Underground, black cabs, and Lime bikes, alongside extensive foot surveillance.

  • No.

This programme is designed for individuals who have already completed formal surveillance training and possess a working understanding of surveillance principles.

The course enhances pre-existing skills specifically for London deployments. It is not designed to teach foundational tradecraft.

  • In London, reliance on personal vehicles is often impractical and can compromise flexibility.

The Underground network, buses, black cabs, ride-hail services, and micromobility platforms are integral to effective movement within the city.

Understanding how and when to use these systems, and how to transition between them without compromising continuity, is critical to maintaining operational effectiveness.

  • London presents a combination of:

    • High pedestrian density

    • Complex transport layering

    • Constant environmental change

    • Significant CCTV coverage

    • Rapid pace and unpredictability

Operatives must think faster, move smarter, and adapt continuously. This course exposes students to those realities in a controlled but demanding format.

  • The course culminates in a large-scale, endurance-based final exercise.

Students are required to integrate foot surveillance, Underground movement, surface transport, and micro-mobility into a live operational scenario.

The exercise is designed to test decision-making, resilience, teamwork, and transport selection under pressure, reflective of real London tasking.

  • This course is suitable for:

    • Qualified surveillance operatives seeking to deploy in London

    • Private sector investigators expanding their operating area

    • Individuals who have completed S2K surveillance training and wish to develop London-specific competence

It is not suitable for those without prior surveillance training.
